The Third Sister
I know it's been a while since I last posted about any books I've read. The reason for that is quite simple...I haven't read anything.
Technically, that isn't true. I just haven't read anything spectacular in quite a while. I did read a couple of books by Nora Roberts. Someone had recommended her work and I found some of her books at Costco and decided to give them a try. She is an excellent author, but the books were a little 'too romantic' for me...I suppose I prefer to use my own imagination for some things!
Anyhow, the point of this post was to say I finally started The Third Sister, by author Julia Barrett (sequel of sorts to Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen). I know I've written about other books she's written and I have to say this book is my favorite! If you have ever read Jane Austen, and if you like her writing style, you will love Julia Barrett. She has done a marvelous job taking the characters from Jane Austen's book Sense and Sensibility and expounding upon their personalities and their character...it's wonderful! I have always struggled with 'the unkown'. I hate having things left unsaid or wondering what happens in the end. This book did a fabulous job of tying up loose ends and letting you continue on the journey a little longer with some very unique and lively characters. I was very pleased with the book, perhaps even more than with the first book by Jane Austen. I would definitely recommend it.

My sister was saying she doesn't really like Nora Roberts either. (I think) my mom suggested Debbie Macomber and I have enjoyed hers and I believe there is more imagination involved, though it is still in the romance genre. I have really enjoyed them because she does somewhat series books and continues her stories about some of the same people we have already met, plus there is usually a twist of some kind in the book.
Also, one of my sisters loves Jude Deveraux and I have read a couple and they were decent too.
Just thought I would put those out there. :)
I've read one or two of Debbie Macomber's books and I agree, they definitely leave more to the imagination!
I love a good romance novel, but I definitely prefer mystery and suspense novels (or some wonderful combination of both mystery and romance). I think that's why I enjoy the Jane Austen books, there is always a hint of romance, but the comedy and turbulence in their lives is what keeps you turning the pages!
My all time favorites where the Nancy Drew mysteries and I have forever been a big fan of Sherlock Holmes. If any of you haven't read Bleak House, by Charles Dickens, that is also a very good read. Terribly tragic, but enough drama, and some romance, to make it a very interesting novel.
i love to read. i'm afraid i'm a guilty nora roberts fan however. we are going to colorado because my mom wants to go to the airforce/byu game and her brother lives there. it should be a nice break!
Thanks for the recommendation. I need a good book! I just finished Jody Piccoult's (I think that's her name) book "Vanishing Act." I liked it a lot, but I heard her other books are fabulous.
