Quin has got the best personality. He is constantly doing things to make me laugh.
Wednesday, Quin was spending the better part of his afternoon playing the DS. The boys had gotten a new game (Lego Star Wars) and have been working rather diligently to beat it.
Joe had just gotten home from Denver and was preparing to leave for Vegas. Ali was being a stinker so Joe put her in Quin's room for a 'time out'. He left her with strict instructions NOT to leave the room until he asked her to.
A few minutes later Joe came upstairs and saw Ali sticking her head out the door, she ran back into the room and threw herself up on the bed. As Joe walked into the room to get after her he heard the closet door closing. He went over to it and pulled it open to see......Quin cramped up in the bottom of the closet playing the DS!!!
He had cloistered himself away in the closet and when he heard Joe come in he tried to hide by closing the door! Joe said he looked so uncomfortable, but apparently a few aches and pains were worth the few solitary moments alone! I still laugh when I think about it....so funny! (I'm also pretty sure Ali holds a great deal of gratitude towards Quin for this...he provided the perfect distraction for her disobedience!)
Clay's funny story of the week also happened Wednesday. He was sent outside, by Joe, to climb to the top of the tree in our backyard. He was told he had to make it all the way up and touch the cow bell (yes, there is a cow bell tied to the top of the rope, in the top of our tree...and it is a VERY tall tree).
So, Clay ran outside and started climbing. Now keep in mind he had just finished eating dinner and was very full (and probably weighed a good extra five pounds too). He got over half way up and started to slow down a little. He started using his toes to pinch the rope and help him push his way up. He was within a few feet of the bell, and you could tell he was getting really tired, and, out of no were, he does this amazing kick with his foot and kicked the cow bell! It was so awesome. Joe, Ben and I all busted up laughing! It was great. He slid down the rope and ran inside with the biggest grin on his face. It was a pretty cool move, Joe was very proud!
And what post would be complete without a tale of woe....courtesy of my darling Ali?
Tonight I took the boys to Applebees to celebrate the end of the school year. Ben went with me and we had a great time. The kids were getting tired though so the second we got home I sent them all to get P.J.'s and brush their teeth. I began cleaning up Jack, and the house, when Ali came back to me with a pair of Dora underpants and her pj's.
I must admit an inner war was raging on whether I should indulge her whim and encourage her to try and potty train, or whether I should be a selfish mom (who doesn't like to clean up pee and poo) and tell her she has to wear a diaper because she doesn't go in the potty. Indulgence won and I let her wear the panties, with strict instructions to come get me the INSTANT she felt she needed to go pee.
Thirty seconds later, as I'm beginning to change Jack's poopy diaper, Ali runs in and announces she needs to pee! I was half tempted to tell her to go back to bed, or wait until I was done. I resisted the urge and left Jacko to help her on the pot. Miracle of Miracles, she actually PEED IN THE POTTY!!! I was, momentarily, so very proud!
Not a full minute later, after I'd done her up and sent her to bed and begun again to change Jack's diaper, she returned announcing her need to pee. I, again, left Jack and brought her to the pot and this time she sat and screwed her face up like she was making things happen, but no pee. This scenario repeated four or five times. I was so patient, I deserve an award for my patience! The final trip into the living room was to announce she wanted a diaper. What?!?!? Ali insisted I take the underwear off and give her a diaper. I relented, since I really didn't want to change dirty bed linen (and I had secretly been plotting how best to get into her room and put a diaper over her pj's without waking her anyhow) when the inevitable "accident" happened sometime the next morning.
After diapering my daughter and, once again, sending her to her room, she emerged only about a minute later with an announcement. "Mom, I need a new diaper, I pooped." Go figure! I must admit I am VERY grateful for her foresight in getting the diaper on BEFORE she decided to poop in her britches because I don't do poopy underpants. I throw them out, and it would have been a waste of underwear (since they've been worn only once, maybe twice). However, WHY OH WHY couldn't she just go on the potty? We were there every other minute over the course of about 15 minutes!
After all is said and done, however, I am simply grateful that she is recognizing when she needs to go and being a bit more proactive...that is definitely a step in the right direction! So, perhaps my little princess will actually potty train before her sweet sixteen...here's hoping!!!
