Can anyone tell me why a one year old, who would previously sleep through the night undesturbed, has decided to wake up FREQUENTLY throughout the night crying....for no particular, or at least blatantly obvious, reason?
I'm at my wits end. He goes to bed fine, but wakes up throughout the night crying. No dirty diaper, no rash, no fever, nothing.
He did break a tooth through two days ago, he has five now. Very cute teeth, I might add! He slept through the night the last two nights because I gave him a Benadryl/Tylenol cocktail. No cocktail tonight and there has been no rest for my weary bones!
He went to bed at eight thirty and is in his crib screaming right now, at twelve thirty. If he continues like the last week or so, he'll be screaming again by around three or four....until he comes to bed with me or I go give him a bottle....WHAT DO I DO?!?!?
You would think after successfully bringing three other children into the world and making it through this stage of life I would have a better handle on things...not so it would seem....I'm at a loss.....

As soon as I started reading this I thought "he's teething." BUT, since the tooth is already through, that's not it... hmmmm, you poor thing! I have found that if kids are basically good sleepers, they might have phases of not so good, but always get back on track. Maybe that will help...
Scottie slept horrible when his teeth were coming in. I think also that they have teeth coming in even when we don't see them and that is a big cause of them waking up. My doctor always says just wait if you think they are sleeping good one week, the next week, it will surely change. My theory is if they get lots of love and know they are safe, they will get back into their routine pretty quickly.
here I am a mom of one, giving you advice, but I also thought, "he is teething" and Scoty never showed his teeth until right at the end....or never does...cause I guess he is still getting teeth, but he does that every once in awhile, and people tell me, just let him cry it out...after you have tried everything, tylenol, etc....cause sometimes it is just a matter of, he knows how to get your goat...and knows how to get his way....I hate it though, it is just easier to give in...but what to do I know? Just telling what helped with Scoty.
Thanks for the comment by the way, I laughed all the way through it. And yes, i feel like I have been pregnant for FOREVER, but when I really look back on it now, that I only have a week left, I am FREAKING...where did the time go? I am so not ready for this, but ready or not, here I go!
Oh, that sounds like Grant. He went through some really bad sleeping phases. Like the other people that commented, I think it was mostly because of teething now that I look back. I didn't know it at the time, because it wasn't really showing yet, but teeth would usually show up soon after. Unfortunately, I never really figured out what to do to help the situation other than hurry up and wait for it to pass. Bummer - I feel for you! Hope you get some rest soon!
